Categories of Treatment

Diagnostic
:  Services that include the initial consultaion as well
as an emergency exam, x-rays, & dental and medical history,
are used to help Dr. Garza diagnose and treat her patients.  In
this beginning stage of dental treatment, she evaluates the
status of her patient's oral health, checks for gum disease, and
any oral cancers.

Preventive:  Once Dr. Garza has discussed the staus of oral
health with her patient, she then establishes a continuing care
program to prevent any future cavities or diseases.  The
continuing care program consists of routine visits every 3 or 6
months depending on the patient's needs.  No patient is alike
and therefore each continuing care program varies.

Restorative:  Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are the
most common cause for the need of restorative treatment.  The
depth and severity of cavities differ from tooth to tooth.  In this
stage of treatment, Dr. Garza suggests that all the cavity be
removed from the tooth and then filled with either silver or a
tooth colored product.

Endodontics:  Root canals.  Who likes them?  Although many
people associate root canals with pain, it is actually the
infection inside the tooth that is causing the pain.  Many people
do not realize they have a cavity until they are in severe pain.
This is when a root canal is needed.  In this procedure, all
decay is removed along with the nerve.  The root is them filled
and preped for a crown.  Since the tooth is now hollow, it is
highly suggested that a crown be placed over the tooth to
protect it from "caving in".

Periodontics:  Gum Disease (also known as periodontitis and
gingivitis) is caused by bacterial infections of the soft tissue
and bones in the jaw.  This is the main reason for periodontal
treatment.  Dependening on the severity of the gum disease,
treatments range from thorough cleanings to extensive gum
surgery provided by a specialized dentist.  Most early stages of
gum disease can be controlled, however, those who have
moderate to severe gum disease risk losing their teeth is not
treated immediately.

Prosthodontics:  Dentures

Oral Surgery:  Extractions

Orthodontics:  Braces
